ARRIVING

/2023
Curious Monkey

From Persia to Peterlee, Kirkup to Kenton Bar, Calais to Dover and finding a place to belong...

This gathering brings together people, pistachios and kufta, where we eat, drink and soak up stories of the heart, place and protest. Food and culture collide through an installation of words and music told in English, Persian and Arabic, and was created in collaboration with Curious Monkey’s Arriving project - a space for people seeking sanctuary in the North East.

Food pleasure, not food poverty...

Bridging Byker 22 celebrates food pleasure, not food poverty and culminates with a brand new NE6 recipe book written, designed and cooked by over 30 residents of the Byker Wall Estate launching at a community feast for 200 neighbours new and old.

Are you lost? Raby Street or Raby Way...?

Byker Audio Stories brings together Northern Stage’s Young Company and The Team, inviting them to show us their world through a uniquely NE6 lens. The result is an uplifting audio trail through the Byker Wall Estate, into and through their memories, misadventures & an estate-wide game of bingo.

Where Do We Belong?

/2019

Northern Stage Young Company

Leave...Remain...Stay...Go...?

This epic theatre event explores our relationship to land and values, offline and on, in person and in tribes. From military regimes, to LGBTQIA+ rights, tenants and landlords, and the divisive ways in which the Leave/Remain decision roared. Through live music, stunning visuals, and integrated BSL, we interrogate how we spend our money, where our clothes are made, the impact of the way we live, full of joyous acts of resistance.

Where Do We Stand?

Northern Stage Young Company

It’s about now, about then, about there, about the past that shapes us and the futures we endeavour to build...

It’s our slice of social realism, painted with the colours of 45 young minds and powered by the beating hearts of humans, not machines, burning to have a conversation. And it’s fierce. And very funny. And jam-packed with ideas, spoken word and a stunning soundtrack led by a vibrant ensemble of makers.

Take a seat...it’s a funny story actually...how long? A cup of tea long, love...

Park Life was co-created over a number of months at Victoria Park in Nelson, Lancashire. We met, interviewed, laughed with and eat with users of the park and it’s nearby Pavilion cafe to co-create an audio celebration of its rich history made for, by and with the community.

Lakes Ignite/Lakes Culture

The thing about life is, it comes in beats...like hearts...

Point to Point was an audio walk like no other. Staged on the almighty landscape of the Lake District national park, the collision of spoken word and binaural music created a fresh look at life from the heights of the fells. Our 14 audio tracks took the listener on a journey along Wainwright’s Walla Crag walk, from which no one returned the same.
